Our household coal is premium Colombian coal in a full 25kg bag, giving a strong, consistent heat and a long-lasting burn. It produces a bright, cheerful flame with minimal ash, ideal for keeping your home warm through the colder months in Newtownards and across the Ards Peninsula.
Why choose our household coal?
- High heat output: premium Colombian coal for strong, steady warmth
- Long burn time: fewer top-ups on a cold evening
- Low ash: less mess and quicker clear-outs
- Full 25kg sealed bag: durable and easy to handle
Is household coal right for my fire?
Household coal is ideal for open fires and multi-fuel stoves. It is a bituminous coal, so if you live in a smoke control area choose a smokeless fuel such as Hi-Glo, Nuggets or Wondercoal instead. For a smaller size of the same coal, see our Colombian Doubles.

Frequently asked questions
How do I light household coal?
Start with a firelighter and a few kindling sticks, add a small layer of coal once the kindling is burning well, then build up gradually.
Are your bags really 25kg?
Yes. Every bag of coal and smokeless fuel we sell is a full 25kg bag, unlike the smaller 20kg bags often sold at garages and filling stations.
Can I order by phone?
Of course. Ring us on 028 9181 8007, Monday to Saturday.
Always use with a fireguard and ensure proper ventilation.
